Date of Establishment and Status of the Training Institution
Chawama Youth Project (CYP) also known as Chawama Skills Training Centre (CSTC) is a community based Training Centre, not for profit making, established in 2001, registered with registrar of societies of Zambia and TEVETA (Technical Education, Vocational and Entrepreneurship Training Authority).
BP Zambia surported the organisation with infrastucture development and additional equipment, IICD supported the organisation with information and communication technologies (ICT) by empowering the organisation with computers, scanner, Video camera, Digital Camera, capacity building in ICTs and studio equipment for audio and video recording, as well as providing for resources to connect to the Internet. Using these resources, the organisation was able to add additional activities such as:
- Training in computer short and internet basics
- Graphic designing (e.g. production of calendars, brochures)
- Internet services (e.g. email for community members, information searching)
- Audio and video recording
Activities
CSTC focuses on training and production. More specifically:
A. Training in:
- Carpentry and joinery
- Designing cutting and tailoring
- Power electrical and house wiring
- Automotive mechanics
- Welding and metal fabrication
- Computer short courses
B. Production in
- Carpentry and joinery
- Welding and metal fabrication
- Designing, cutting and tailoring
Objectives
Development objective
Adding ICT and Financial support and activities to the existing CSTC aims to assist the Zambian agenda of producing employable youths that meet the national labour market requirements of flexibility and high quality in work standards. This will contribute to the livelihood opportunities for vulnerable youth through building capacities and encouraging aspiring youths to develop their entrepreneurship and their talents, ultimately contributing to the reduction in poverty among Community members in Zambia.
Institution objectives
- The objectives of the extended ICT Programme are as follows:
- to enable talented youths and women to become productive members of the community;
- to encourage and assist in the establishment of economical enterprises for the youths and women, and promote self-employment;
- to improve efficiency and effectiveness of staff members of CSTC in their day-to-day duties;
- to promote ICT usage in the local community (in particular Chawama) and among students for their respective courses;
Our Mission
CSTC is a post secondary vocational and technical training center. Our mission is to train a diverse and effective workforce that supports the economic growth and constancy of our state.
Our Vision
CSTC is Lusaka’s Chawama community preferred technical training center, recognized for its student-centered environment and training excellence. Through creative and collaborative partnerships, CSTC is to be the National’s most responsive leader in strengthening business and industry by building the highest quality workforce. Consequently, a community free of poverty, a habitable society.
